A Day on foot in NYC

My goal for day 2 was to see as much of the city as possible without walking to much as the souls of my feet were starting to feel like they had already died and returned from foot hell. I first had to check on a train out the city for Saturday so I dragged my aching feet down to Penn St Station to purchase my Chicago ticket. On the walk back I almost missed that I was standing right in front of the Empire State building. This was to good an opportunity to miss to check out the views of the city from the top down instead of from the bottom up. Truly stunning is the best way to describe it. From the view north over Central Park, West over Jersey, East over to Brooklyn or South to downtown it just blows you away. The view when you look straight down sends you dizzy and really makes you feel like you are balancing on a tight rope. When I finished in the Empire State Building I exited on to the street and purchased a hop on hop off bus ticket. I had been told that these were the best way to get round quickly and see all the main sights with the added bonus of a tour guide to give you a history lesson. The route took me via all the famous districts like Greenwich Village, Chinatown and Tribeca. The final drop off point was World Trade Centre One and the foot print fountains of the fallen towers.

It’s a very surreal experience especially when you put it up against the ticker tape parade that was happening only a couple of blocks away to celebrate the women’s world cup victory. After this I went on my movie location hunt. I was only a short walk along the River front to where Leonardo Di Caprio sat on a boat and invited the FBI to join him for a drink in The Wolf Of Wall Street so I found it and took the standard film fan photos. Next was Tribeca to the Hook and Ladder 8 building, famous for being the site where the Ghostbusters worked from and drove out of in their White hearse with sirens blazing. When I got there it was good to see that I wasn’t the only film buff taking photo’s.
