Germany Part 2. Icking to Murnau am See.

After leaving the church where I camped I headed to Starnberg to cycle the bike path alongside the lake. It was pure farmland views all the way to the coast. No wonder a lot of early settlers in the USA who came from Germany chose Pennsylvania as it has the same open space feature. Along the lake the houses were stunning. They say money begats money, well money certainly begats amazing property. Once I reached the southern point of the lake at Seeshaupt I stopped off for lunch. You can’t beat a avocado and cheese sandwich with a cup of coffee. Even more so when you find €2 underneath the bench where your sitting. I followed the back roads again heading towards the next lake at Murnau am See where I would surely find a good place to pitch for the night. To get there I followed the local bicycle route network, all clearly signposted with distance remaining. I past through the marshland of Iffledorf, Antdorf and Obersöchering and arrived at Murnau around 6pm. Plenty of time to get some food and find a good spot.

I fell in a great location on the shore of the lake with a bench and some steps down into the water. In need of a wash down I took an early evening swim with my shower gel handy then dried off and chilled in the evening sunshine. Coffee in hand and soup on the boil. Wild camp spot sorted and nothing to trouble me until the guy who turned up just after I had set my tent up. He didn’t cause me any bother but seeing a middle aged man go skinny dipping 20 feet away while trying to get in the relaxing zone would be enough to knock the Buddha off his meditation. I didn’t worry about it though when I got in the tent. I had my bike chain ready in case a meat and two veg came swinging through the door of my tent. Next stop, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and a hike.
