Day 21 Humbug Mountain to Harris Beach Park. (34 miles)

I had said that to get to Humbug Park was the easiest ride so far. To get to Harris Beach has been the hardest. The road, hills and wind were not to bad, though the 1 hill was a killer due only to the thing that made today so bad. The heat. It was touching the high 90's when the road went through any enclosed stage where the wind was unable to keep the air cool. To make things worse the opposite side of the road was in shade. It was so hot and relentless that I had to cross the road a few times just to get out of the sun. My tan may be coming on nice but the price to pay is feeling like having a cardiac arrest every 3 miles. To make things worse my ipoddle ran out of battery half way through the Supergrass album I should Coco. Gutted... I had spoken to a rider in the Humbug camp called Nick. He was from Australia presently but North Yorkshire originally. He warned of the weather he had been experiencing earlier on his trip as he was coming from the south. He said it was over 100 north of LA a couple of weeks earlier. If this is the case then I may need to ditch some weight off the bike to allow for more room to carry water.

During the ride I caught up with the father and son team of Scott and Will. I felt a bit of an achievement catching up with a very athletic pair with all the gear. Little did I know until later that they had simply taken a detour that added 45 minutes to their journey. Still when I caught them up I didn't know this so I got at least a bit of a buzz when I needed it most. For dinner I went to Mcdonald's as I was in need of something quick and bad. They have a new chicken type burger over here which after devouring in minutes can confidentiality state that it will be a hit if they bring it across to the UK.

What I hope doesn't come over is the tweakers. To put y'all (Americanism), in the loop a tweaker is a drug addict that basically waits by shops, restaurants, bars and any where else that people who have money to spend will go. They wait for the opportunity to pounce to either beg for money or steal anything that can be sold. I have been approached by a few crazy people but not a tweaker yet, though I have spotted them. I saw one today shuffling around outside Mcdonald's while I was there. I referred to The Walking Dead in a previous post and I still stand by that analogy. Beware The Tweakers....and the dam mosquitos they both want something from you........money & blood. Tomorrow I will leave Oregon and enter California. I dream of Californication......
