Day 23 Elk Prairie to Eureka KOA (46 miles)
After yesterday's zombie related rant I have decided to not let them bother me anymore. I have hills, fog, mosquitos and air beds to keep me more than amused. I didn't mention the fog previously even though it became a major factor almost as soon as I entered into California. I have never experienced anything like it. Within seconds the sky goes from perfect blue to grey and the fog rolls in through the trees.
The temperature goes from baking hot to unbearable cold before you have chance to pull over and add extra layers. If you haven't put an extra layer on you better hope that the next mile or two are not down hill as that adds massively to the wind chill. American novelist Mark Twain once wrote, "the coldest winter I ever felt was like summer in San Francisco". He wasn't wrong.
On today's ride I dropped back and just cruised at my own pace. I'm not as quick as any of the others but it's not an issue for me. I say to anyone I know that are setting off an hour or so later than me to just pass me if they catch me up and not to worry, I won't be offended. It's not the Tour De France and I definitely ride more like Christopher Biggins than Bradley Wiggins. I had my first puncture today. Not bad really. Almost 400 miles and only one puncture. Hopefully it will be the last.
