Day 32 A room with a view......What a view as well. (Again not sure of distance but effort has been
So I left the feet reeking room with no view to ride to Foster City and meet my Warmshowers hostess Shirley. I could see her location on Google maps and it seemed quite straightforward to get to. On the way I stopped at the San Francisco Giants home ground, AT&T Park. I tried to use my English charm to get and photo the infield but it wasn't working. I had to contend myself with the outside shot only. They have the return game against the Cubs on Tuesday but i was told the game has sold out. Go Giants.....
Me saying the route looked straightforward turned out to be miles off. In accuracy and distance. I ended up in an area not best suited to obviously lost, exhausted passing bike riders. I would have asked for directions but the choice of who to ask for help was a tough one. Do I ask the black shorted, white T-shirt, white sock, bandana under a baseball cap wearing group of latino's standing round a car or do I politely ask the half dead limping shuffling messes the other side of the road? I could if I was feeling brave go a few hundred yards to the biker bar called the Dog patch. Choices choices!!! I played it safe, put on my Giants Cap to blend in and did the right thing. Turned round and went back the way I came. It was a case of, if first you fuck it up, go back and start again. I managed to get my bearings and headed up a road and through a district called "The Mission". I think the name has religious overtones as there seemed to be a lot of churches and preachers along the route. I didn't feel to much safer around so many thumpers than I did around the gang members earlier. The road is called "Mission St" and I can testify it's a mission to ride from one end to the other. I got to top of what is basically another hill, said a "Hail Mary" and set off at speed down the decent towards Foster City. I got the Google maps route readjusted and found an easy route through nice neighbourhoods surrounding Foster City.
The location I am staying at now is beautiful. The house, garden, food, company, all amazing. There is also a cat that is now very friendly once it sussed me out. I have been invited to stay for a couple of days which will help me out physically as my knee has been getting very sore this week. The lodging is sorted via Warmshowers.org. its a brilliant site that gives so much help when travelling. Tomorrow I may go to the Google headquarters around 13 miles away or just silicon valley. I may pop to the Stanford Sleep Research Centre and offer my services or I may just eat........
