Philadelphia - New York - Home
Chris and Dani were kind enough to drop me off just outside Philadelphia instead of having to catch another train. I had arrived just in time to be in the city when Pope Francis made his visit. Before I made my way to my hosts house I cycled around the city and got amongst the massive crowd. While cycling through I stopped to cross a busy road and got talking to a group of people waiting to catch a glimpse of the Pope. One was a catholic priest with a few of his flock and they were happy enough to say a mass and give me a glass of wine that had been blessed.
Just before I reached the host I took a few photos outside Lewis Winthorpe's house out of Trading Places.
My host came with me the next day to do the Rocky Balboa run up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum with my bike above my head and take my photo standing next to the Rocky Statue. Another life goal achieved. I found a bicycle route that took me along the river where I found the graveyard containing Adrian Balboa's gravestone. How strange that an real graveyard kept a movie prop gravestone complete with flowers.
When I arrived back in New York I stayed with Brendan, a cyclist I had met on the west coast with his girlfriend Kat. His flat was in Harlem which was perfect for me to cycle through Central Park and get a few photos from the location of the gang meeting out of the film The Warriors. One last meal at a fantastic Somali restaurant and a night in a bar watching the New York Yankees and my American trip came to end. Next day it was airport time. Such an amazing trip doing everything I had wanted too. Roll on the next one.
