Southern UK Tour. Summer 2016. Plymton, St Austell, Lands End.

I had a warmshower host for a night in Plymton. I was her first guest so she was a little bit on edge at first but after a chat over a cup of tea we seemed to hit it of ok. She was thinking about a bicycle tour and was happy to chat with someone who had done a few. My host the following night lived in St Austell on a farm. The only room for me was in a caravan in his garden. This wasn't a problem but it did drop a bit cold in the night. I could hear his 2 pet sheep outside scratching around eating a few times but I was pretty tired after a hard day so once I was asleep it was all good. The hills in this part of the world are not big but they come thick and fast. Every village is at the bottom of a hill so it's down to get but up to leave. After about 6 villages it gets a bit of a mission.

I made it to Lands End the next day after another bout of hill madness. I had never been here before so it was a bit special to reach the southern most tip of the country. One day I'll do top to bottom in one go. Maybe straight down the middle to keep away from the coastal climbs. At the campsite I got talking to a young couple who's mother was on warmshowers so the gave her a call and arranged for me to stop when I got closer to Bristol. Sometimes I fall on some great luck with random people. Since I have been riding this kind of thing happens so often it's very reassuring.

When I made it to Goonown I stayed with a super cool warm shower host. I was cooked a great dinner, enjoyed awesome conversation and slept on a big comfy sofa. The next morning I was cooked two poached eggs on bagels. I'm truly thankful for everything the warm shower hosts provide. We connected on Facebook and I was looking forward to seeing her upcoming tour along the Rhine in 2017. I didn't know this at the time but her sister is an Olympic gold medal winning cyclist. How amazing!
