Bright to Burroweye

In the few days since I left Omeo I have been over the Great Alpine Road past the hi ski resorts of Hotham Heights and Dinner Plain. These led down to the stunning and very popular town of Bright. I have been to Australia twice before and been close but never visited even though I had been told how beautiful it was. I wasn’t disappointed. Pop up breweries, bicycle and coffee shops everywhere. Apparently it’s the mountain bike capital of Australia and judging by all the off road trails I think it rightly has that title. I stayed with a host called Jon. I had mentioned to him that I was going to do the Bright Parkrun on the Saturday morning and he said he would sign up and do it too. The run was through a stunning wooded area along a trail. It was only a newly formed Parkrun so it was me and 10 others. I ran home in first place with a time of 20:39. Usain Bolt only runs against 7 others when he sprints so I’m claiming 10 others as even more competition that the great man has to face. The others runners were all superb and very welcoming of this visiting Pom. I had 2 days after Bright in the city of Wodonga with a previous hosts mother. I had stayed with Bronwyn on my last trip and it was fantastic to see her again. A truly kind and gracious person who is a pleasure to know and call a friend. From Wodonga I pushed a big day to the free camp at Burroweye. This was probably the hardest days riding so far as the heat was intense. I was struggling as I seem to have injured my right leg pretty badly. I think it was from doing the Parkrun and 60 miles on the same day. Hopefully it clears up soon as I have a 1700 metre mountain pass to take on in a day or two.
