Jindabyne - Canberra
It’s been few days since I left Thredbo. My first major stop was at Jindabyne where I wild camped at the side of the lake. A perfect location as the Parkrun was along the lake side. I was once again made to feel very welcome and introduced to the other runners as a tourist on a bike from the UK. My time was pretty good again considering I have replaced lots of running with cycling. The hardest thing seems to be the early morning heat. From Jindabyne I had a few days cycling to make my way to Canberra for Christmas Eve. I had a host sorted who had said there was no room in the inn but the garden would be very comfortable. I woke early but not quite as early as their children who were busy unwrapping Christmas presents when I walked into the house. As per usual in most households around the Christian world the parents were hoping to get a few hours lie in but the massively excited children were having none of it. I did the Christmas Day parkrun in Canberra at Burley Griffin in a time of 20:30 so they are definitely coming more in line with my times back home. Canberra was a fantastic city to cycle around. I think it stacks up nicely against Portland and Rotterdam as the most bicycle friendly cities I have seen anywhere. Sydney is nearing on the horizon where the bicycle lanes are good but not quite Canberra. Footnote: I wrote this after cycling from Canberra and stopped of after 40 kilometres in a small town. I was eating my Christmas Dinner (Rice, Egg, Avocado) in the Park and a lady came out from a house across the street and gave me a slice of Christmas cake with Jelly)
